Sarwa Abdulwahid, head of the New Generation Movement faction in the Iraqi parliament, announced on Saturday that the Iraqi government has agreed to send one month’s salary directly to Kurdistan Region employees—if the region resumes oil exports and agrees to Baghdad’s new conditions.

In a press conference, Abdulwahid stated that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has informed Baghdad it produces 282,000 barrels of oil daily, of which 42,000 barrels are allocated for domestic consumption. However, she noted that the actual production is higher than declared.

She emphasized that most oil companies are prepared to accept Baghdad’s terms, but the KRG has yet to comply, particularly regarding Baghdad’s request to nationalize salary payments. Baghdad has proposed a new draft agreement and is awaiting a response from the Kurdistan Region. A final discussion on the matter is expected next Tuesday.

"We are not part of the Iraqi government,” Abdulwahid said, "but our efforts to resolve the crisis continue. If we win a majority in the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, we will prioritize improving the situation for salaried employees.”
