The Iraqi Independent High Election Commission (IHEC) has registered more than 3.6 million new voters in preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for November.
Imad Jamil, head of the commission’s media team, stated on Wednesday that this figure includes citizens born between 2004 and 2007 who have completed biometric registration through mobile teams deployed across the country. The extensive campaign involved extended working hours, operating on holidays, and field visits to universities, institutions, and private homes.
Additionally, more than one million citizens born in 2007 have updated their voter records during the recent registration window from March 25 to November 13. The updates were processed using national food ration forms provided by the Ministry of Trade.
This will be Iraq’s sixth round of parliamentary elections, and electoral authorities say preparations are progressing according to the established timeline.
