The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its support for the recent decision to lift international sanctions on Syria, calling it a positive development that could contribute to peace and stability across the Middle East.

The move follows remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump during his visit to Riyadh, where he revealed that the decision had been made in coordination with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Trump described the step as part of a broader strategy to reduce tensions in the region in the aftermath of Bashar al-Assad’s fall.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani’s government reiterated Iraq’s longstanding position in favor of Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. Iraqi officials stressed that a stable Syria is vital for the security of the region and directly impacts Iraq’s own national interests.

Baghdad has consistently called for Syria’s reintegration into regional and international frameworks, underlining the importance of dialogue and cooperation over isolation.
