Sulaymaniyah – Ammar al-Hakim, leader of the Hikma Movement, addressed key regional and domestic issues during his speech at the Ninth Sulaimani Forum on Wednesday, focusing on the ongoing Iran-U.S. talks and Iraq’s upcoming elections.
"Our destiny in Iraq is that we are Iran’s neighbors. Our history and culture are closely connected. Iran played a significant role in the reconstruction of Iraq and remains a close friend,” Hakim said.
He described the United States as "a distant friend of Iraq” and emphasized the importance of balanced diplomacy. "For negotiations between Iran and the U.S. to succeed, both sides must respect their red lines and reach constructive outcomes. The absence of dialogue would negatively affect the entire region,” he warned.
Hakim revealed that Saturday’s talks between the two sides were positive and expressed hope for continued progress. "None of the countries want war at this time,” he added.
On Iraq’s internal affairs, Hakim reiterated the importance of adhering to the country’s constitution. "The constitution is the father of laws. Politicians must act within its framework. Weapons must be held solely by the state,” he stated, noting that Iraq has endured enough conflict.
