Sulaymaniyah – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Wednesday announced that he will run in the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, reaffirming his commitment to serving the people and continuing the country's development path.
Speaking during his visit to Sulaymaniyah, Al-Sudani said the Iraqi people are prepared for the challenges ahead and highlighted his government's achievements over the past three years.
"We are trying to create small projects for the youth. Iraq continues to grow, and young people are a vital human resource working to achieve their goals,” he stated.
The Prime Minister noted several key accomplishments during his tenure, including:
-
A threefold increase in water absorption capacity
-
Significant progress in the health, electricity, and oil sectors
-
Efforts to boost gas production
-
A 28% rise in customs revenue
-
A 2.7% drop in inflation
Al-Sudani also stressed the need to reorganize alliances, saying announcements regarding new political alliances will be made in the coming days.
He pointed to constructive steps taken to resolve longstanding disputes between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region, noting that for the first time, efforts are being made to settle these issues through constitutional mechanisms.
"Our concern is the concern of Iraqi citizens. We will not allow political conflict to prevent us from delivering services. Our goal is to strengthen the relationship between the people and the government,” Al-Sudani said.
On regional matters, he affirmed Iraq’s intention to avoid entanglement in regional conflicts, acknowledging the growing influence of both the United States and Iran in the region. He also expressed hope that ongoing dialogue between Iraq and Iran will progress in a positive direction.
Al-Sudani mentioned ongoing efforts to reorganize state institutions and ensure that weapons remain under state control. He warned that the situation in Syria has led to increased activity by terrorist groups, and revealed that Ahmad Sharia has been invited to Syria as part of these developments.
