Iraqi Finance Minister Taif Sami said the implementation of the electronic customs system will serve as a major economic support for the country, during a meeting with a U.S. delegation and representatives from the UNCTAD program on Tuesday.
The meeting focused on the progress of the digital customs automation project, which is being implemented by the General Customs Authority in cooperation with UNCTAD. The system aims to modernize Iraq’s customs infrastructure, enhance transparency, and streamline trade procedures.
Minister Sami emphasized that the automation project is a strategic step toward improving trade flows, reducing bureaucracy, and increasing state revenues, adding that it reflects the government's broader vision for economic reform and digital transformation.
