The Sulaimani court has once again postponed the trial of Shaswar Abdulwahid Qadir, the leader of the New Generation Movement, following more than two weeks of his arrest.

According to NRT’s reporter, the court session held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, was adjourned for the second time, with the trial rescheduled for Tuesday, September 2.

Security forces reportedly prevented citizens from entering the courtroom and confiscated their mobile phones, which have not yet been returned. New Generation MPs were also barred from attending the session, sparking tension between Srwa Abdulwahid, the leader of the movement’s parliamentary faction, and security forces.

Although Shaswar Abdulwahid has no prior criminal record, the court has refused to release him on bail, despite constitutional provisions granting that right. Observers say the move appears aimed at prolonging his detention.

Local and international media have confirmed his arrest, which came shortly after he warned that the Kurdistan Region would face serious consequences if it failed to resolve its disputes with Baghdad and continued blocking the transfer of public salaries.
