The Director General of Iraq’s State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO), Ali Nizar, confirmed on Tuesday that the Kurdistan Region has not yet delivered any oil to the federal government, despite SOMO’s readiness to receive it.
Speaking to Iraqi media, Nizar denied any allegations of oil smuggling or mixing at Iraqi ports and clarified that SOMO’s recent correspondence about smuggling concerns was a routine procedure to regulate tanker loading schedules. He also emphasized that the organization refuses to deal with companies blacklisted by international sanctions.
Nizar stated that Iraq currently exports between 3.35 million and 3.4 million barrels of oil per day, with 78–80 percent going to traditional markets and the remainder to Europe and the United States.
