The former head of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Human Rights Commission on Monday criticized the high cost of electricity under the lighting project, describing it as a heavy burden on citizens.
He revealed that he received a monthly electricity bill of about 800,000 dinars, stressing that it is unfair to place the weight of economic reform on ordinary families, especially when most depend solely on salaries or daily wages.
He called on the government to reassess the current electricity pricing system to match citizens’ incomes, adding that electricity should be considered a basic service and a human right, not treated as a commercial commodity.
