The Independent High Election Commission (IHEC) has announced a significant development in the oversight of Iraq’s upcoming parliamentary elections by introducing artificial intelligence (AI) monitoring tools.

Dr. Emad Jamil, head of IHEC’s media team, told Sabah newspaper on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, that the commission has officially approved AI technology to oversee the electoral process. He added that a specialized course on AI election monitoring will be launched in preparation for its implementation.

As of now, 40 percent of the electronic voting machines have been prepared, with efforts underway to complete technical readiness. The commission has also scheduled August 9 as the official date for the draw to assign numbers to coalitions, political parties, and individual candidates contesting in the elections.
