The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced on Tuesday that it continues to purchase electricity from the Kurdistan Region as per ongoing contractual agreements. Ministry spokesman Ahmad Musa emphasized that the energy supply remains stable and uninterrupted from the region.
"The contracts are still being implemented, and energy is being received continuously,” Musa said, noting that the only temporary disruption in supply is due to repair work on the Iraq-Turkey transmission line.
This confirmation comes amid growing public criticism over rising electricity prices in the Kurdistan Region. Under the outgoing administration of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, electricity rates have reportedly increased 13 times.
Despite the rising costs for citizens in the Kurdistan Region, the federal government in Baghdad maintains its energy import arrangement with the regional authorities, ensuring continued supply to other parts of Iraq.
