The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced Monday that more than one million and 85 thousand new voters have registered across Iraq, making it the highest increase in new voter numbers since the 2005 elections.

The commission said this rise reflects increasing public engagement ahead of the November 11 parliamentary elections, which were officially scheduled by the Iraqi Council of Ministers on April 9.

IHEC noted that coalition registration is progressing smoothly, with more political coalitions entering the process—something the commission believes will strengthen transparency and electoral oversight.

With only five days left to issue biometric cards, IHEC urged citizens to visit centers during the holiday period, as registration facilities will remain open. Notably, those born in 2007 are now eligible to vote and are encouraged to complete their biometric registration.

The commission stressed that voting without a biometric card will not be permitted under the current regulations.

IHEC hopes the number of new voters will exceed two million by June 15, reinforcing confidence in the upcoming democratic process.
