The Iraqi Ministry of Defense has revealed a series of new contracts aimed at enhancing the country’s military strength across three strategic sectors: air defense, naval power, and cyber security.

Defense Ministry spokesman Tahsin Khafaji announced on Sunday that Iraq will receive six French Caracal helicopters by mid-June to strengthen its air force, with an additional 14 aircraft scheduled for delivery throughout the next year. These helicopters are expected to provide greater flexibility and rapid response capability in Iraq’s air operations.

In the naval domain, Khafaji confirmed the recent delivery of three advanced warships from Turkey, marking a significant upgrade to the Iraqi navy's operational capabilities.

On the cyber defense front, Iraq is working closely with Spain to develop an anti-drone system designed to detect and neutralize unmanned aerial threats. This move comes amid increasing global concern over drone-based security risks.

For airspace control, Iraq has acquired four French Talis long-range radars, alongside three short-range radars, as part of a broader contract. These systems will improve Iraq's aerial surveillance and defense infrastructure, ensuring broader and more accurate coverage of its skies.

The ministry said these contracts reflect a strategic effort to modernize the Iraqi armed forces and strengthen national security through international partnerships and advanced technology.
