Iraq has ranked third in the Arab world in the number of bank cards issued, a sign of progress in digital financial transformation, according to Prime Minister’s Financial Advisor Mazhar Mohammed Salih. He confirmed that by mid-2025, Iraq will enter a fully electronic revenue collection system, which boosts investor confidence and accelerates financial modernization.

Salih said the development is part of a broader shift toward a digital economy aligned with the National Development Plan 2024–2025. He emphasized that electronic payments and banking will support financial inclusion, attract fintech investment, and improve transparency, ultimately contributing to poverty reduction and economic reform. The government views this as a key milestone in implementing e-governance and building an integrated digital infrastructure.
