A large fire broke out early Sunday at the Beji oil refinery in Salahaddin province, following an explosion in the oven of Unit 109, according to Iraq’s Civil Defense Directorate.
Firefighters quickly responded and managed to contain the blaze, successfully preventing it from spreading to other production units within the facility. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident, while the full extent of the damage remains unknown.
The Beji refinery is Iraq’s largest petrochemical facility, with a production capacity of 310,000 barrels per day.
