Justice and Development Party (AKP) Spokesman Ömer Çelik said the dissolution and disarmament of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) marks a significant step toward ending terrorism and beginning a new chapter in Turkey.
In a statement released on Monday, May 12, Çelik said, "The disarmament and dissolution of the PKK is an important step toward the goal of a terror-free Turkey. It opens the door to a new stage in our country’s fight against terrorism.”
He emphasized the importance of turning this declaration into practical action. "This decision must be implemented thoroughly and must include all illegal branches and extensions of the PKK,” he added.
Çelik noted that Turkish institutions are closely monitoring the process and reiterated that each positive development will lead to further progress toward lasting peace and stability.
The PKK officially announced its disarmament and dissolution earlier the same day following its 12th congress, ending nearly five decades of armed conflict with the Turkish state.
