Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani sponsored the signing ceremony of a landmark energy cooperation agreement and two maintenance contracts with Germany’s Siemens Energy on Thursday, in the presence of the German Ambassador to Iraq.

The agreement, part of the third phase of Iraq’s energy cooperation with Siemens, aims to add 14,000 megawatts of electricity to the national grid. The move is expected to significantly enhance Iraq’s power system capacity and improve electricity services across the country.

In addition to the main agreement, two repair contracts were signed. One covers long-term maintenance of the Dibs gas power plant, which has a total capacity of 340 MW. The other involves a five-year maintenance program for the Musayb thermal power plant, aiming to maintain its 750 MW capacity and add an additional 150 MW.

Prime Minister Sudani emphasized the importance of continued and serious cooperation with Germany, stating that Siemens remains a strategic partner in Iraq’s efforts to develop its vital energy sector, a foundation for broader national development.
