Erbil – Iraqi MP Ala Haidari revealed that approximately 180,000 barrels of crude oil are smuggled daily from the Kurdistan Region, causing Iraq an estimated annual loss of $4 billion. He noted the oil is sold below global market prices, generating around $11 million in illicit revenue each day.
Haidari said oil exports from the region officially stopped following an International Court of Justice ruling in Paris, but smuggling operations have continued through tankers and other unsupervised channels, bypassing federal oversight.
