SULAIMANI — Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani said on Saturday (March 18) the Kurdistan parliamentary election must be held so that the legitimacy of the Kurdistan Region does not come under question.

Barzani Headquarters released a statement announcing the KDP leader hosted a luncheon with a large number of ambassadors, consular staff, international representatives, members of global organizations and coalition forces in Iraq and Salahaddin.

Barzani said at the gathering there are positive efforts from the both the Kurdistan Region’s domestic side and the international community to prepare the Region for elections.

The Kurdistan Region’s parliamentary election was supposed to be held in October 2022 but it was delayed due to dispute between the KDP and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

Officials in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) have announced that the election must be held this year, this came after international communities stressed on holding elections.
