SULAIMANI — Halabja Mayor Nukhsha Nasih said on Thursday
(March 16) that demands for the city’s reconstruction have not been met by the
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
Nasih told NRT on the 35th anniversary of the chemical
attack on Halabja that local authorities have demanded services and projects
for the city but these demands have not been met by the KRG.
She also stated there have been several further requests for aid to the families of
martyrs and victims of the chemical weapons attack and these requests have not
been answered.
Nasih called on the KRG to provide the services and projects
requested for Halabja.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Parliament
Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi issued statements commemorating the anniversary of
attack on Halabja that was inflicted on the city in 1988 by the Baathist
Regime.
Sudani said the Council of Ministers had voted to make
Halabja a province, and that it was a moral duty for the decision to be
implemented before anything else.
