SULAIMANI — Iraq and Turkey have reached an agreement on
water resources, a ministry spokesman said on Monday (March 6).
Khalid Shamal, the spokesman of the Iraqi Ministry of Water
Resources, said a delegation led by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani
visited Turkey for talks on a number of issues, including the water flow of the
Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
The agreement lasts for one month only, Shamal said, during
which committees on the economy and water resources will work to reduce Iraq’s
reliance on water reserves and take advantage of steps made to resist drought.
Iraq relies on the Tigris and Euphrates river for about 70
percent of its water supply.
