SULAIMANI — The Summit Foundation for Refugees and Displaced
Affairs said on Sunday (February 26) a boat carrying 100 migrants sank near
Italy’s coast and more than 40 of the passengers are dead.
The foundation’s representative in Europe, Shahram Hama,
said 50 of the migrants have been rescued but 10 are still missing.
The Daily Mirror also reported at least 43 migrants are
dead, including people from Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan.
The newspaper said about 30 bodies were found floating in
the southern coast of Italy and according to rescuers, the victims included
children.
Local Italian media said search and rescue efforts are
ongoing.
