Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced on Saturday that negotiations between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) are making "great progress” and an agreement is expected soon.
Speaking at an energy conference in Baghdad, Hussein revealed that the talks have focused on non-oil revenues and that both sides have returned to the legal framework to resolve their differences. "Each side is interpreting the laws from its own perspective, but we are close to a common understanding,” he said.
The minister added that the joint committees are expected to finalize their work by Monday, with reports to be submitted to the Iraqi Council of Ministers on Tuesday for a decision. He expressed optimism that the outcome will be positive.
However, despite progress on non-oil revenues, the Kurdistan Regional Government has not yet delivered a single barrel of oil to Baghdad, a long-standing point of contention between the two governments.
