Syrian Oil Minister Mohammed al-Bashir announced that he will soon visit Baghdad to discuss restoring the Kirkuk–Banias oil pipeline, aiming to resume direct exports of Iraqi crude to Syria. The 800-kilometer pipeline, built in the 1950s and operational since 1952, has been out of service since it was damaged in 2003.
With an estimated repair cost between $300 million and $600 million, the line could transport up to 300,000 barrels per day to Syria’s Homs and Banias refineries once restored. Both sides are expected to address technical and financial arrangements during the upcoming visit.
