Temperatures to Drop in Kurdistan Region as Heatwave Persists Across Iraq

The Kurdistan Regional Meteorological Agency announced Tuesday that temperatures in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) will begin to drop to normal levels starting Wednesday, after days of extreme heat.

Weather conditions for today remain partly cloudy, with increased wind speeds expected in Sulaimani and surrounding areas. The agency reported that while temperatures will remain above 40°C across Iraqi provinces until Saturday, relief is expected in the Kurdistan Region where the heat is forecast to decrease by 3–5°C.

Today’s temperature highs in key cities were reported as follows:

  • Erbil: 42°C

  • Sulaimani: 41°C

  • Duhok: 41°C

  • Kirkuk: 45°C

  • Zakho: 43°C

  • Halabja: 42°C

  • Soran: 41°C

  • Haji Omeran: 33°C

  • Garmian: 45°C

Meanwhile, ten southern and central Iraqi provinces continue to face extreme temperatures, reaching nearly 50°C, described as "half the boiling point" by meteorologists.
