SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Region’s presidency has set November 18, 2023 as Election Day.

The Spokesperson for the Presidency, Dilshad Shahab, said in a press conference on Sunday (March 26) that the Region’s President, Nechirvan Barzani, has set the date for November 18 under Law No. 1 of 2005.

All sides must abide by the necessary work in cooperation with the Electoral Commission to implement the order, he said.

Shahab called on parliament and all blocs to take urgent and practical steps to reactivate the Electoral Commission and start its work on time.

He said the parliament should dissolve all disputes over the election law among the blocs and make amending the election law a priority.

The date of the parliamentary election has already been delayed for more than one year.

The Kurdistan Parliamentary election was supposed to be held in 2022 as the parliament term ended on October 10, 2022 and the term was extended by the parliament unilaterally.
