SULAIMANI — The Iraqi Electricity Ministry said on Sunday
(February 5) the ministry has paid back all funds from its gas debt to iran and
will resume importing gas from Iran to Iraq in three days.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed
Musa, said Iraq now owes no gas debt to Iran.
Natural gas imported from Iran is used to produce
electricity by Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity and its Minister, Adil Karim,
said in June the country’s gas resources are were not enough to be used for
producing the electricity needed.
Musa said Iran stopped exporting gas to Iraq for nine days
under the pretext of repairing the transport line, but gas exports will resume
in the next three days.
He also said the ministry is negotiating with Turkey, Jordan,
Saudi Arabia and Gulf Cooperation countries to achieve electricity contracts
with them.
