Shaswar Abdulwahid Qadir, the leader of the New Generation Movement, has issued a scathing critique of the current state of governance in the Kurdistan Region, describing it as a time of "deep crisis and collapse.”

In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter) published on thursday, Abdulwahid highlighted the political, institutional, and economic deterioration in the Region after 35 years of Kurdish self-rule. He stated:

"After 35 years of Kurdish self-rule, the Kurdistan Region today stands without a constitution, without a functioning parliament, without a unified government or army, and without an independent judiciary with real authority. Since 2022, the current government has lost its legitimacy, while administrative and financial corruption have reached unprecedented levels. And worst of all, the Kurdish citizen lives in the worst financial and living conditions. These are the darkest days of local Kurdish governance — a time of deep crisis and collapse.”

The New Generation leader’s remarks come at a time of heightened political tension between the ruling parties and opposition forces in the Region. His message reflects growing public frustration with the lack of reform, deteriorating public services, delayed salaries, and lack of institutional accountability.

Observers believe that Abdulwahid’s statement may further intensify the pressure on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), which is already facing internal divisions, disputes with Baghdad over oil revenues, and demands for early elections.
