Jabar Yawar, former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Peshmerga, said on Wednesday that the recent drone attacks on oil infrastructure in the Kurdistan Region are being carried out by Islamic Resistance factions and Hashd al-Shaabi groups, in response to the escalating Iran-Israel conflict and internal disputes with Baghdad.
Yawar stated that these attacks are linked to the ongoing budget, salary, and oil disagreements between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government. He emphasized that although the Interior Ministry has indirectly blamed elements of the Hashd al-Shaabi, the joint intelligence committee between Baghdad and Erbil has yet to be formed to investigate and verify the claims.
His comments come as drone attacks intensify across the region, including recent strikes on the Sarsang oil field in Duhok, Khurmala, and three oil fields in Zakho.
