The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has strongly rejected recent accusations by the Iraqi Oil Ministry, stating that the Region has delivered more than 11 million barrels of oil to the federal government but has not received any financial compensation in return.
In a statement issued Thursday, the KRG’s Ministry of Natural Resources described Baghdad’s claims of oil smuggling in the Kurdistan Region as "an attempt to divert attention from the widespread smuggling and corruption occurring elsewhere in Iraq.”
According to the ministry, the Kurdistan Region still retains the constitutional right to increase its oil production but has voluntarily reduced it to half the required level in the interest of national stability.
The KRG emphasized that it has fully met its obligations, delivering oil to Baghdad in accordance with previous agreements. However, the federal government has yet to fulfill its responsibilities, including financial transfers.
The ministry concluded by calling on Baghdad to honor the constitution and end what it described as unfair treatment towards the Kurdistan Region
