SULAIMANI — Four people were killed and five others injured in an Islamic State (ISIS) attack in Makhmur district in Erbil governorate on Thursday (December 2), an NRT reporter said.

Three civilians and a Peshmerga were killed in the attack in the village of Khidir Jija in Makhmur, which is located about ten-minutes from the main highway in Erbil. The three civilians, all from the same family, were Nazim Ismail, Azad Ismail, and a third brother. Civilians and members of Kurdish forces were both among those injured in the attack.

The group of ISIS militants appeared to consist of eight gunmen.

An NRT reporter said a large number of Kurdish forces, including from the 14th Peshmerga Brigade, are being deployed to the village, which is located in a strategic area.

The village has eight or nine families and ISIS militants have at times fired in the direction of the residents.
