The Iraqi High Election Commission (IHEC) announced that coalitions and political parties must nominate new candidates to replace those expelled by September 4, 2025. The deputy spokesman of the commission, Nibras Abu Soda, stated that the reasons for expulsion vary.
On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Abu Soda said that around 20% of the expelled candidates were removed due to issues with their high school diplomas. In addition, candidates related to women's representation must meet a minimum of 25%, and some expelled candidates were found to have forged certificates.
According to the latest statistics, 627 candidates have been expelled so far. Political parties and coalitions have three days to fill these vacant seats, and new candidates are required to pay the registration fee.
