The Iraqi Ministry of Commerce has confirmed the arrival of more than 42,000 tons of Thai rice as part of efforts to bolster the country’s food ration program.

In a statement on Thursday, the General Company for Food Trading, affiliated with the ministry, said that 42,800 tons of Thai rice have landed at Umm Qasr port in southern Iraq.

The rice is currently undergoing inspection to ensure it meets the required quality standards and conforms to the characteristics of certified Thai rice. The ministry emphasized that only rice that passes safety and quality checks will be cleared for distribution.

Once approved, the rice will be distributed through the country’s food agents and ration card system to benefit Iraqi citizens across all provinces.

This import is part of Iraq’s ongoing strategy to maintain food security and ensure the regular supply of essential commodities to the public.
