A 37-year-old religious teacher was shot dead in the town of Qushtapa, Erbil province, in what appears to be a revenge killing stemming from an old social issue, according to NRT.

The incident occurred near a police station, where the victim was shot six times while sitting in his car. His body was later transferred to forensic medical services for examination.

Eyewitnesses reported that several years ago, the victim had accidentally caused the death of the suspect's child. Following the incident, he served a prison sentence of one year and six months and reportedly paid over $30,000 in blood money as part of a tribal reconciliation agreement.

Despite the earlier settlement, the suspect allegedly took matters into his own hands. He has since been arrested by the Erbil Police Directorate, and authorities have opened an investigation into the killing.
