The formation of a new government in Iraq will be delayed even if a meeting is held at the end of the month and a speaker of parliament is appointed, former Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi parliament Bashir Haddad said.

Haddad told the official website of his party on Sunday that no agreement has been reached on the appointment of presidential and prime ministerial candidates, adding that the formation of the Iraqi government is expected to take several months.

He said that transferring the Kurdistan Region’s problems to Baghdad would further complicate the process, noting that Baghdad cannot resolve its own problems while also addressing others, and that it is wrong to mix the issues of the region with those of the federal government.

Haddad added that the Kurds would have a stronger position among other Iraqi political forces if they go to Baghdad with a unified stance.
