A leader of the Shiite Coordination Framework said the alliance is currently divided between three candidates for the position of prime minister and insists that the post must be decided as soon as possible.
Zia Nasri, one of the Coordination Framework leaders, said on Thursday that the bloc is considering three names: Nuri al-Maliki, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, and Haider al-Abadi.
He said the Coordination Framework is calling on al-Sudani and al-Maliki to reach a compromise with each other or agree on one of the nine proposed candidates to move the process forward.
Nasri added that a prime minister trusted by armed groups must be elected in order to resolve the issue of weapons and restore stability.
