The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) announced on Monday that it has allocated 5 trillion dinars to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in a move aimed at boosting economic growth and job creation.

According to the CBI, the initiative is expected to finance more than 100,000 projects by the end of the program, with priority given to sectors that enhance development and productivity. The bank highlighted that its previous financing measures, launched in 2015, have already assisted thousands of small and medium-sized projects across the country.

An economist noted that the new allocation will increase financial assistance to SMEs by 3%, strengthening their role in the Iraqi economy. The CBI said the program is part of its broader strategy to diversify income sources, empower entrepreneurs, and reduce reliance on oil revenues.
