Adviser to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, Baha al-Araaji, said on Thursday that the Shiite Coordination Framework still has sufficient time to decide on its candidate for the post of prime minister, noting that the framework has up to two months to finalize the decision.
He said that during the last meeting of the Coordination Framework, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Nouri al-Maliki remained the main contenders for the post of prime minister.
Al-Araaji added that the United States and other international parties do not openly support a specific candidate, but may oppose certain figures.
Regarding Sunni political forces, he said they failed to reach an agreement in their most recent meeting and are expected to enter parliament with two candidates.
