The Sunni National Political Council (SNPC) is scheduled to meet today to decide on the candidate for the post of speaker of the Iraqi parliament.
The SNPC met on Tuesday night at the residence of Thabit Abbas to finalize the nomination for the next speaker, but the meeting ended without reaching an agreement.
In a statement, the council stressed the need to adhere to the constitutional deadlines for holding the first session of the Iraqi parliament.
Meanwhile, Thabit Abbas and Musana Samarai remain the most prominent candidates for the post of speaker of parliament.
