The National Political Council, representing Iraqi Sunni parties, is scheduled to meet today to select a candidate for the next speaker of the Iraqi parliament.
Salah Marawi, a member of the Azm coalition, said Sunday that the meeting will be held at the headquarters of Musana Samarai, the leader of the Azm coalition. He added that the goal is to determine the candidate for the speaker’s post, but no names have yet been agreed upon.
Meanwhile, Salah Kabisi, a member of the Siyada coalition, said that most parties already have preferred candidates for the post of parliament speaker. He added that negotiations are ongoing, and there is a good understanding among the parties to reach a final decision.
