The extent of damage caused by the recent floods in Chamchamal, Takya, and Shorsh in Sulaimanyah province is far greater than what has been officially announced, with affected residents complaining of poor services and negligence by relevant authorities.

According to the Joint Crisis Center (LCC), the floods damaged 1,607 houses, 500 vehicles, 116 shops and markets, and 456 projects across the affected areas.

Reports also indicate that 25 public parks were damaged or completely destroyed. In addition, water pipelines were cut in Darband, Bazian, and Takya, leading to a complete disruption of water supply in Chamchamal and Shorsh.

Field teams warned that blocked sewage systems and damaged roads particularly the main road linking Kirkuk and Sulaimanyah could worsen the situation if heavy rainfall continues. They also reported significant losses of livestock and poultry as a result of the floods.
