A new taxi service program will be launched across all Iraqi provinces in the new year, aiming to create a modern transportation network and offer greater convenience for citizens. Under the system, all taxis will be connected through a unified application, and fares will be fixed.

Maysam Safi, spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Transportation, said the ministry has been working for a year to update transportation systems and now plans to link all taxis nationwide through a smart digital platform.

He explained that the project aims to streamline taxi operations in all provinces and build a transport network that benefits from modern technology and meets citizens’ needs.

The system will require all taxis to register in a central electronic database, with drivers’ identities verified. Vehicles must also undergo technical inspections before being approved to operate within the system.

Safi added that fares will be standardized, and citizens will be able to book rides in advance through the application. Trips will be trackable, providing passengers with greater confidence and safety.

He noted that coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic and local governments is ongoing to gradually implement the system across all provinces.
