The new generation movement said it is shameful that the outgoing government responded with force against young people who held a civil demonstration and became victims while making a legitimate demand.
The movement stated that the outgoing Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has turned Lajan village into a military base by deploying large numbers of security forces.
According to their statement, this incident is not the first of its kind; since 2011, dozens of similar events have occurred whenever citizens, teachers, and various groups demanded their rights, job opportunities, or means to sustain their livelihoods.
The new generation movement said that demonstrators who ask for their rights should not be met with bullets, calling the response unacceptable.
They also urged that the deployed forces withdraw from Lajan as soon as possible, saying the rule of law must be upheld and the incident cannot be covered up.
One of the injured protesters remains in critical condition, while the others are reported to be in stable condition.
