The body of a young migrant from Ranya, who tragically drowned two years ago while attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea, is set to return today to the Kurdistan Region.
According to reports, his remains will arrive at Erbil International Airport later today after a long repatriation process. From there, the body will be transferred to the Raperin region.
The young man lost his life when the yacht carrying him sank in the Aegean Sea during an irregular migration attempt. His body was discovered months later and buried in Italy, where it remained until arrangements were completed for its return to Kurdistan.
His family and the local community are expected to gather in large numbers to pay their final respects.
