The scale of the financial and energy losses resulting from the recent attack on the Kormor gas field has been revealed, with daily damages exceeding $7 million, according to a report released Saturday by the Iraqi Eco Observatory.
The report states that the Kormor field previously produced 530 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, valued at approximately $10,000 per million cubic feet. In addition, the field generated 1,580 tonnes of LPG per day and 22,000 barrels of condensate.
Following the attack, production has been halted, leading to severe economic losses as well as a major disruption in energy output.
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Electricity Minister Kamal Mohammed announced that the attack resulted in a loss of 3,000 megawatts of electricity, equal to an 80% reduction in regional generation capacity. As a result, daily electricity supply has dropped to only four to six hours in many areas.
The Kormor gas field, located in Chamchamal, is one of the most critical energy infrastructures in the Kurdistan Region, and its shutdown has significantly affected both the regional economy and the electricity grid
