The New Generation Movement faction in the Kurdistan Parliament issued a statement on Saturday expressing deep concern over the recurring violence. The faction said that "the repetition of these incidents and the response to demonstrators demanding their normal and legal rights with weapons proves that the outdated government is not ready to solve any problems.”
According to the statement, the current government has shown no real intention to address the problems of citizens—especially the rising issue of youth unemployment. Instead of responding to people’s demands "in a civilized manner,” it continues to confront demonstrators with weapons.
The New Generation Movement reaffirmed its support for all civil and peaceful protests far from violence, but demanded that those who opened fire—regardless of which force they belong to—must face justice. The faction also called on both ruling parties to immediately stop the use of weapons and violence against demonstrators who are exercising their legitimate rights.
