In a statement on Sunday, the directorate said Iraqi forces had intercepted 22,000 narcotic pills that were being transported into the Karma area of Anbar province using a balloon. The operation followed detailed intelligence gathering that revealed the smuggling attempt.
Authorities confirmed that the confiscated pills have since been handed over to the Directorate of Counter-Narcotics for further legal action.
This incident is not the first of its kind. Earlier this year, in April, the Iraqi Interior Ministry reported seizing 400,000 Captagon pills, highlighting ongoing efforts to disrupt increasingly creative and unconventional drug-smuggling methods across the country.
