Iraq’s Minister of Water Resources, Aun Ziab, announced on Saturday that early indicators point to a promising rainy season this year. Despite low rainfall in October, he said the recent precipitation marks the beginning of what is expected to be a wet and productive year.
Ziab noted that after several consecutive years of drought, Iraq will likely experience "a good amount of rain,” especially during the remainder of this season and the first quarter of next year.
He emphasized that the country is still at the early stage of the rainy season and that there is currently no need to begin storing water. Instead, he highlighted that the priority lies in supporting agricultural needs—particularly in the central and southern regions.
The minister explained that the main focus is securing the first irrigation cycle for the wheat crop, which has been allocated for planting across one million acres
