The Iraqi Ministry of Commerce is rolling out a new plan to implement a barcode system on goods to protect consumer rights, ensure quality control, and prevent the sale of low-quality products.

Fayyaz Mohammed, head of the Quality Control Center at the Ministry, said Saturday that the system aims to safeguard customers and domestic products, combat fraud, and ensure imported goods meet Iraqi standards. Initially, the system will cover nine categories of electrical appliances, including refrigerators, stoves, and ovens, before expanding to all electrical products.

The Ministry has set November 15, 2025, as the launch date. The barcode will provide detailed information, including the country and company of manufacture, production date, and other essential product details.
