Thirteen years after the foundation stone of Duhok Airport was laid, the project remains largely incomplete, with only about 10% of the work finished.
The project was first announced in 2012 by then–KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, who pledged to build a modern airport for Duhok. At the time, $60 million was allocated for the project, which was scheduled to be completed within three years.
However, more than a decade later, construction has stalled. Current Prime Minister Masrour Barzani had also promised to complete the airport during his cabinet, but no significant progress has been made.
The long-delayed Duhok Airport project has become one of several large-scale infrastructure projects in the Kurdistan Region that remain unfinished despite substantial budgets and repeated government promises.
